2019 CoursesWe're re-vamping the courses for 2020, and are excited to show you what we've come up with! Courses will be similar to 2019 with some variations (but still sticking to single-track and dirt). Both are challenging - in both terrain and elevation gain, but offers some of the most incredible singletrack, views, and scenic viewpoints in Southern Colorado.

The Point Alta Vista Half-Marathon is a challenging course that is about 90% singletrack and 10% dirt road. The elevation gain is over 1,500 feet and starts at an elevation of about 5,800. The views, however, are incredible. From the Canyon Rim trail, you'll peer into the 1,000-foot Royal Gorge and see the Arkansas River below. From the top of Dreamweaver, you'll see miles in the distance to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Distance: ~13.1 miles
Terrain: 90% Natural surface singletrack, 10% dirt road
Singletrack type: Rocky in places
Elevation gain / loss: ~1,500 feet
Equivalent to: a 138-story building
Points of significance: Steep hill on One Track Mind, incredible views all over!

The half-marathon course will follow much of the same route as the Gorgeous 25. Runners will start at the Gunslinger's Lounge at the Royal Gorge Ranch & Resort. They'll take a western loop around the historic Point Alta Vista Train trestles before returning to the start line and heading out on singletrack. The route will follow One Track Mind (and the infamous 'Badger Hill') > Twisted Cistern. Next up is a series of incredible views on Canyon Rim, with a quick jaunt through the campground on S'Mores. A quick climb to the top of Dream Weaver will lead runners on a nice, flowy downhill to an aid station at the bottom of the hill. They'll re-join Made in the Shade and take Tin Cup Cuttoff to finish on doubletrack gravel roads back to Gunslinger's Clubhouse. Please note that a portion of the course is on private property and is not available for pre-running until Friday, August 30.
Be aware that this course includes a significant amount of singletrack, natural-surface trail, some gravel road, and about 1,500' of elevation gain. Only experienced trail runners should attempt this course and should be comfortable with natural surface (rocks, etc.) trail.
